How it works

Four terms worth knowing before you buy

Health insurance is a simple trade once the vocabulary is clear: you pay a small, known amount regularly so you're not exposed to a large, unknown one later.

₹

Premium

The fixed amount you pay monthly or annually to keep your policy active and your family covered.

%

Deductible

The portion of a claim you pay yourself before the insurer's coverage begins for that policy year.

÷

Copay & coinsurance

Your share of a specific bill — a fixed fee for a consultation, or a percentage of a hospital charge.

+

Coverage

What's actually paid for: hospitalisation, surgery, consultations, medicines, and often dental or vision.

Plan types

Eight ways to structure your cover

Every household needs a different mix. We walk through each option against your family size, age and existing cover before recommending anything.

01Individual health plans+

A single policy built around one person's sum insured — straightforward, and easy to size precisely to their needs.

02Family floater plans+

One sum insured shared across the policyholder, spouse, and dependent children or parents. Any family member can claim up to the shared limit, which usually works out more cost-effective than separate policies.

03Critical illness plans+

Pays out the full sum insured on diagnosis of a covered major illness, as a lump sum you can direct toward treatment, income loss, or any other pressing cost.

04Top-up plans+

Extends an existing sum insured at a low added premium. A deductible applies per claim, and anything above it is paid — useful if your current cover feels just slightly short.

05Super top-up plans+

Works like a top-up, but the deductible applies to your total claims across the year rather than each claim individually — better protection if multiple smaller claims are likely.

06Senior citizen plans+

Designed for individuals aged 61 and above, with cover and premiums calibrated for that stage of life.

07Hospital cash plans+

Pays a fixed daily allowance for each day of hospitalisation, up to a set number of days — a cushion for incidental costs your main policy doesn't itemise.

08Disease-specific plans+

Indemnity or fixed-benefit cover built around named conditions — diabetes, cancer, cardiac care, dengue and similar — for households where one risk carries more weight than the rest.
